We Started With a Jeep, a Dream, and Zero Clue What We Were Doing

Welcome to Unhinged Adventures.
If you’re looking for polished vanlife with perfect lighting and matching mugs — this probably isn’t your place.
Our story started in Missouri, living out of a Jeep, chasing freedom with more heart than planning. It was cramped, chaotic, and weirdly beautiful. We learned fast what we didn’t need, how loud silence can be, and why weather becomes personal when your “house” is a parking spot.
Eventually, the Jeep wasn’t cutting it anymore — so we did the logical thing and traded it for a mini bus.
Bold move. Questionable judgment.
The Mini Bus Era: Bigger Space, Bigger Lessons
She wasn’t perfect, but she was ours.
And she came with mechanical issues, breakdowns, fixes, more fixes, and the kind of stress you only get when your home has wheels and suddenly won’t move.
Still, there were moments that made it worth it — doors open, dog stretched out on the floor, coffee in hand, realizing we were exactly where we were meant to be.
Until the mice moved in.
Yes, really.
Nothing humbles you faster than realizing your off-grid dream has been invaded by something with whiskers and zero respect for boundaries. We learned some lessons the hard way, listened to feedback, and we’ll do better next time.
That’s kind of our thing.
This Is a Field Journal, Not a Highlight Reel
Unhinged Adventures isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about the messy middle — the breakdowns (emotional and mechanical), the doubts, the laughter, and the moments that remind us why we chose this life in the first place.
This site is our campfire. A place to tell the stories that don’t fit in a reel, share what we’re learning as we go, and document off-grid living, travel, mental health, and the magic hiding inside the madness.
If you’re craving freedom but still figuring it out —
pull up a chair.
This is just the beginning.
